Orchid growing on decaying wood canoe, Rose Harbour, Haida Gwaii, BC

On our 4-day Zodiak tour of the southern Haida Gwaii island, commonly known as Moresby Island, we stayed one night at the old whaling station of Rose Harbour. A 500 metres climb through dense rain forest brought us to the shell of a dugout canoe abandoned before completion. It would pre-date the whaling station and so was likely being built ~1850-1880. Today, it is moss-covered and hard to distinguish from the other fallen logs all around. A tiny orchid now has found its home on top of the decaying hull.
